How big is your vision?
What is the vision of love, the vision of hope, the vision of peace, the vision of joy? Is it the vision of the lonely, disheartened, down and out, directionless? Many times these individuals, who can very well include us, see the future as one filled only with money, cars, houses, people, jobs. It is one humongous toy box as big as the imagination. At first glance, it seems limitless. However, a box has limits. It has a bottom, sides and a top. No matter how large it is, it is finite.
What if instead, we enlarged our vision to be as limitless as the universe. What if instead of a giant toy box, our vision filled the sky and reached to the heavens. What if the toy box parameters were flung away, the only constraints being every inch of the universe. What would the dream be then? What would the parameters be?
If we as the lonely, disheartened, down and outers fill our lives with dreams as big as the universe, we may begin to see ourselves as the boundless spirits God created us to be.
Maybe then we could reach across a crowded elevator, look in a stranger's eyes and ask her from the depths of our heart, "How are doing?" And when she looks away and says, "Not so good," we might touch her shoulder and say, "I've got time for a cup of coffee. Would you like to talk?"
Or, when we ask a friend, "What's happening in your life?" And they say, "Nothing." We could take her hand in ours, look her in the eye and say, "Let's meet for lunch this week. How's Wednesday?"
The scripture speaks such truth when it says where there is no vision, the people, any person, the woman in the elevator, your friend, you, for instance, perish.
Living is so much more than right now and all the stuff right now possesses. It is forever and forever is.
Forever is a very long time.
